It's never easy being the target. Team Associated entered the 2012 ROAR 1:8 Fuel Off Road National Championship as both the defending Buggy and Truggy National Champions. In Buggy it was Ryan Cavalieri who carried the National Championship and Ryan Maifield that carried the Truggy National Championship.

As the weekend unfolded, the team found themselves with numerous drivers in a position to vie for the National Championships. As expected, Maifield and Cavalieri were among the fastest each time on the track; however, up-and-coming racers like Tanner Denney, Steven Hartson, and Gunnar Rieck all had top 10 qualifying runs.

When all was said and done with qualifying, it was Team Associated/LRP/Reedy's Ryan Maifield who set the fastest time in three of four rounds to take the overall Buggy Top Qualifying position with his LRP ZZ.21 CC-powered Factory Team RC8.2 buggy.

Qualifying directly in to the semi-final and one bump away from the A Mains were Ryan Maifield, Ryan Cavalieri and Tanner Denney in Buggy and Ryan Maifield, Ryan Cavalieri and Steven Hartson in Truggy. After the buggy semi finals were completed it was Ryan Cavalieri this time that would start first for the 60-minute Buggy A-Main finale with teammate Ryan Maifield starting third. In the truggy semi-finals again Maifield and Cavalieri transferred to the 45-minute main event starting 3rd and 4th respectively.

Unfortunately for the team there were some problems for "The Ryans" in the main events. Both Maifield and Cavalieri had mechanical failures in the buggy main event while running 3rd and 4th. In the truggy main event, defending National Champion Ryan Maifield finished just off the podium in 4th place overall.

In the end, the race was a mild success for Team Associated, however the event went off great thanks to the hard work of the crew from Lost Creek R/C Raceway and the ROAR RMT. With a dedicated staff like we saw at the 2012 ROAR Fuel Off Road Nationals, look for LCRC to gain National recognition as one of the premier 1:8 facilities in the nation.
