The Grass Roots Racing Series is a local series among the four major tracks in the "lower Desert Cities" of California. With a focus on up-and-coming racers, the series provides a great place for pros to mingle with newcomers to the sport.

Team Associated/Reedy's Richard "The King" Saxton headed out to Thunder Alley for round 3 of the series with his Reedy-powered RC8.2 to compete against World Champion Cody King. As qualifying got underway, Saxton found himself just a few seconds off the pace of the Expert Gas Buggy TQ time of the World Champ and felt confident heading in to the main event.

As the tone sounded, a bad jump from Saxton found him with a terrible start and relegated to the back of the pack. Drawing on his years of experience, Saxton remained calm and put together laps as Cody King checked out. As the race neared an end, Saxton had worked his way back up in to second place and within striking distance of King. A mechanical failure form King's vehicle found Saxton inheriting the lead and taking the win, proving that a bad start doesn't always dictate a poor race.
